Now Europe has gained better knowledge on how to plan for sustainable cities.
A successful EU project has reached the finish line. It has resulted in several new knowledge bases and guidelines that make it easier for cities that want to introduce sustainable mobility solutions.
CIVITAS SUMPs-Up is an EU-funded project that has brought together European cities, researchers, universities, environmental organizations, climate institutes, transport consultants and mobility experts into a single initiative to help cities introduce cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions.
European-wide strategic planning approach
The SUMPs-Up objective is to:
“Enable mobility planning authorities across Europe to embrace SUMP as the European-wide strategic planning approach, especially in countries where take-up is low, and the negative effects of transport are severe”
Among other things, the project has generated several knowledge bases and guidelines such as:
- A second edition of Guidelines for developing and implementing a SUMP
- A new and updated SUMP Self-Assessment Tool
- Five topic guides
- Three measure selection manuals and an action plan template
- Good practices from European cities
